Launch of Her Salisbury Story Website

We are delighted to be launching the brand new Her Salisbury Story website. We hope you will be interested in the profiles of women of both the past and present and will find something here on the site to inspire you.

Her Salisbury Story is a National Lottery Heritage funded project run by Soroptimist International of Salisbury which aims to bring Salisbury’s heritage alive through the exploration of previously hidden women’s narratives, celebrating the lives of Salisbury’s women past and present.

2020 marks the 800th anniversary of Salisbury’s foundation. Our aim is to ‘write in’ women’s experiences of Salisbury ensuring women’s contributions are seen and valued as intrinsic to the city and its development.

There is information about the project and its aims on the About Her Salisbury Story page and the story of our initial project launch on International Women’s Day and our previous activities can be found on this News page. If you explore Her Stories you will find short pen portraits of just a few of the women we have discovered in our research. There are many more to come!

Coming soon will be Her Footprint which will be a downloadable map of Salisbury, marking the homes and locations associated with the Her Salisbury Story women we have featured.

We hope that the pen portraits of the notable women we have published will whet your appetite to find out more about the project and maybe to get involved yourself? You may know of a significant woman locally you think we should be featuring, in which case why not nominate her? Nominate a Woman

You will find that currently we only have articles about a few of the contemporary women we plan to include. We will be interviewing these women and many others when we have recruited and trained our volunteers

Get Involved is the place to find out ways to connect with the project, including how to volunteer, how to nominate a woman to be featured in the project, and how to join our newsletter mailing list. Alternatively, do contact the team with a question or suggestion, by filling in a contact form.

To hear Sue, Louise and Barbara from the project team talking about Her Salisbury Story, listen to the podcast on MySalisbury.
